As I sit in my office and look over the last 2 year and the progress we have made as an organization I am excited to move into 2009 with following changes, improvements, and additions in place:
 
 
1.  Revised organizational by-laws
2.  Re-organized Board of Directors
3.  New staff
4.  New logo and tag line
5.  New Web site
6.  Soon to be launching the Center for Strategic Partnerships
7.  Renovations to interior and exterior of Chamber Offices
8.  New Tuscarawas County web portal to be   launched in 2009
9.  New and improved events and programs
10. New and improved newsletter and Chamber materials heading your way in 2009
11. New benefits will be announced sometime in 2009
 
In 2009 we begin the 50th year for the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce.  On  June 16, 1921 the New Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce organized to promote the civic, economic and social welfare of the people of New Philadelphia and vicinity.  On May 21, 1959 at 1:15 pm, at which meeting a quorum of such members present, by the affirmative unanimous vote of the members present a resolution to amend the original Articles of Incorporation the name of the New Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce shall be the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce.  The president was Robert E DeCrane, Secretary was James L. Marple.  The attorney acting on behalf of the organization was James R. Stephenson.
 
As we celebrate our 50th year as the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce I look forward to the continued growth and improvements that we have been experiencing this year.  Tuscarawas County is an amazing place to live, work and play.

Farewell & Welcome
 The Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce staff welcomed the interim director of the Community Improvement Corporation, Mr. Bill Gotschall, earlier this year.  Bill was really great to work with and learn from.  The Chamber staff would like to thank Bill for his commitment to Tuscarawas County and the time he spent here. 
Thanks Bill and we hope you have a great winter in Florida.  See you in the spring.
 
The staff would like to welcome Mr. Gary Little, Executive Director of the Community Improvement Corporation of Tuscarawas County.  We look forward to helping you experience why Tuscarawas County is the best place to live, work and play!  We wish you luck in your new position and we are here to help.

As per Chamber by-laws, the membership is being notified of the slate of nominated members.  Additional name of candidates can be nominated by petition bearing the genuine signatures of at least 20 qualified members of the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce.  Such petition shall be filed with the Nominating Committee within (10) ten days after notice has been given of the names of those nominated.  The determination of the Nominating Committee as to the legality of the petition(s) shall be final.
There being no additial nominations filed by petition within the designated period, then the candidates nominated shall be declared elected by the Board of Directors.

green spacesYoung Professionals Network of Tuscarawas Valley is a great way for the under 40 professionals to meet new people and learn about Tuscarawas County. 
 
Great things are coming your way if you are involved in the YP Network of Tuscarawas Valley.  On November 19th there is an event on "The Importance of Volunteering" to be held at Noon at Union Country Club and on December 17th there will be a "Get to Know t.v.y.p.n." event at Krocker's Bar and Grill from 5:00-7:00pm.

Nominations are now being accepted for the awarding of the Small Business of the Year, Organization of the Year, and Educator of the Year.
 
The Small Business of the Year and the Organization of the Year awards recognize winners for their significant contribution to the economy of Tuscarawas County.
 
The Educator of the Year Award must be employed in Tuscarawas County and should exemplify commitment to students, the teaching profession, and the community at large.
 
The Chamber of Commerce will present these awards at its Annual Banquet on January 27th, 2009. Applications are now available at the Chamber office.
