News from the Board

It's time to look to the Tuscarawas Chamber of Commerce for discounts on your Employer Sponsored Group Health Plan.

The Tuscarawas Chamber of Commerce is a member of the Northern Ohio Area Chamber of Commerce also known as NOACC. This affiliation allows our members discounts through numerous companies including Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Anthem is one of Ohio's largest health insurance carriers and offers a comprehensive network of doctors and hospitals within Tuscarawas and surrounding counties. As a Benefits Consultant, I advise and write health insurance benefits for numerous businesses. Currently Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is my fastest growing health carrier. They offer very competitive rates, good service, a strong network, and many value added benefits. As a Tuscarawas Chamber member you will receive 4% of the traditional Anthem rates if you have under fifty employees. If you are over fifty employees you will receive a 1% rate discount.

If you are interested in a quote please call the Tuscarawas Chamber of Commerce at 330-343-4474. They will provide you a list of the Independent Insurance Agents within the Chamber that will assist you in quoting these benefits.

Union Hospital Run for Home
Looking for some good news in 2009?...Well, look no further than the Union Hospital Run for Home. It's a great sponsorship opportunity and benefits a terrific cause as well as promotes exercise and physical fitness. Now, that's some real good news! The Run for Home is a half-marathon and team relay road race, one mile fun run/walk, kids' race, and health fair. It's all to benefit the Tuscarawas Valley Habitat for Humanity. Last year, nearly 600 people from all around Ohio and beyond participated in the Run for Home events. In addition to Union Hospital, participating sponsors include Allied Machine and Engineering, Lauren Manufacturing, Dominion East Ohio, AultCare, Krugliak Wilkins Griffiths and Dougherty Attorneys at Law, Dover Phila Federal Credit Union, and Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition. Supporting Sponsors include First Federal Community Bank, Tuscarawas County Dairy Farmers, and First National Bank. Race Day Sponsors include Tuscora Electric Supply Co., Dover Hydraulics Inc., SuperFitness, Radiology Associates of Canton (Dr. Stephen Sabo), Expert's Realty, Coulters Dog and Hunters Supply, YMCA of Tuscarawas Co., Metal Masters, Union Internal Medicine Specialties, and Fenton Brothers Electric.

There are several ways you can participate:
>  Sign-up as a sponsor. Your employees can register for the race at half-price and compete for the Charles Mackey Corporate Trophy. It's a great way to promote employee wellness.
>  Volunteer to help out on race day by staffing an aid station on the route or working at the health fair.
>  Supply premium type items such as pencils, magnets, coupons etc for the "goody bags" that runners receive at the race. This is a super opportunity to promote your business to hundreds of people.

For more information, call Matt Ritzert at 330-827-5710 or visit the Run for Home website at

Leadership Tuscarawas Sponsoring "Donate-Save 8. Do It Now!"-First Ever County-Wide Workplace Organ Donor Registration Drive

Did you know that every individual could save eight lives simply by being an organ donor? Did you know this same organ donor could improve the lives of fifty more people by also being a tissue donor? The challenge is that about half of our county's residents have not taken the five minutes needed to become a registered organ and tissue donor.

Because of this, the 2009 Class of Leadership Tuscarawas is sponsoring a county-wide workplace "Donate-Save 8. Do It Now!" Organ Donor Registration Drive and is currently looking for area companies to join in the campaign.

The drives will be part of the National Donor Awareness Day on February 14, 2009. The message of the campaign is simple - register as an organ donor and save eight lives

All of the materials to conduct a company's registration drive are part of a free workplace campaign kit provided by Lifebank Ohio.

Any business interested in saying yes to life and joining the team of Tuscarawas County companies participating in "Donate-Save 8. Do It Now!" should register online at
www.leaguelineup.com/donatelife or contact Janine Garber at (330) 343-4283, ext. 8206.
